Vancouver Island is almost 2/3 the size of England, but has only 800,000 inhabitants. 280 miles long by 60 miles wide, it lies off the West Coast of British Colombia, and is a beautiful land of mountains, forests, lakes, rivers and beaches. The beaches on the Straits of Georgia, near the house, are shallow and sandy providing warm safe swimming conditions in summer.
